Is there any point asking for mattress advice on here?

I would not hesitate in buying the Saturn. While what Tim says may be true for the cheaper end of the market, Millbrook are at the very top of the game. 2500 springs is a perfect number as it's the highest amount of springs you can fit in one level, so therefore one of the most supportive on the market. Millbrook quality and guarantee length means that you will be getting an awful lot of quality bed for your money, including a Scandinavian knot minimised pine base that is not only glued together but also screwed. Now, you won't get that at the bottom end of the market!
It applies to all brands, as it doesn't make a difference who makes the mattress. There are actually very few pocket spring manufacturers in the UK, and many bed manufacturers use more than one. So you may find the same springs in many different brands of mattress.0 -
Hi Tim (and anyone else who may be able to offer an opinion), thanks for the previous advice but I'd be grateful for your thoughts on the Relyon latex serenity 1500 kingsize mattress which I've seen for £579 in a kingsize. I know it's a non-turn mattress, and don't worry I'm still considering the Vienna or the Saturn 2500 as they are the only turnable, two-sided pocket spring and latex mattresses I've been able to find but I was wondering about your thoughts on a) this mattress in particular, and b) Relyon (and for that matter Millbrook) mattresses in general.
Cheers.0 -

Just going by what I have been told recently by people who have recently owned Relyon mattresses, it unfortunately seems that they are another company who used to have an excellent reputation, but have lowered standards.
After searching the net I can't find anyone who actually states the depth of the latex foam. So this is often a bad sign, especially when they mention a layer of resilient foam (which is basically reflex foam). So it appears that the latex may be bulked out with reflex type foam rather than containing a deep layer of latex.
The Saturn 2500 is two sided, but only has 30mm of latex on each side, which it appears is also bulked out with reflex foam.0 -
Hi OP, I know what you mean, I asked about mattresses a while back with a budget of only £100 for a double. I was told there was no way I was going to get anything decent for that price, which wasn't especially helpful- I just needed a mattress, and that really was all I could afford.
I ended up ordering a Snuggle mattress from Mattress Man and it is the comfiest mattress I have ever had. Mattress Man were really good as well- arrived on time, very cheery driver who delivered it across a road to get it to my door. I'm sure I'll be told my mattress won't last as long as it should but I'll hope it lasts anyway! I figured buying from a lesser known brand with a smaller range would be better as they'd surely be better quality.
I think it helps if you know exactly what you need from your mattress- aka if you have back problems you probably will have to pay a lot more for a better mattress, or if one sleeper is bigger than the other you'll need a mattress that prevents roll back. I didn't have any of these issues so it made choosing a mattress a lot easier.0 -
You are absolutely right. The single most important thing to consider when choosinga new mattress is how it feels for you. I don't care what the so called "resident expert" says; specification etc means absolutely nothing if you don't like the feel! Buy the best you can afford that you like the feel of and you'll have a great night's kip!
In some aspects I agree with you. If you are on a tight budget, and you don't have any back probelms etc, then you should go for what you find most comfortable. However you have been telling people to go for big brand names, and if Fuzzy-Duck had done as you say, then the best they would have got would have been a budget mattress that they would have been able to feel the springs on. But buy going for a less well known manufacturer they got a half decent mattress for a low price. It may not have been an all singing, all dancing mattress, but as long as the quilting is deep enough to last, and they turn it occasionally, then being open coil sprung it should last quite a long time. After all with a two sided mattress it will take twice as long for the quilting to break down, and open coil springs are very resilient.0 -

Tim, could you tell me where you found the info about the Saturn being bulked out with reflex foam as I am quite interested in this bed but cant find a mention of it on the Millbrook site.
Thanks

Sighs, I know how you feel, too much info makes my brain explode. My bed base has collapsed and my mattress has springs sticking into my back (thanks to 4 years of my daughter jumping up and down on it) now my boyfriend is sleeping on the sofa:rotfl:
I need a new everything and am slowly saving up the money, but still have no idea what to get!! I swear companies make all these things so confusing to trick us! All i know is my back is killing me!
I didn;t realise Tim had his own company, shame you can't post it on here, I just wanna buy something, anything thats not to expensive and will last and i trust Tim over any dodgy sales person! In face i refuse to even go into a bed store and try any out as i get pounced on the min i step foot in the door:mad: and not in a good way!! lol :P0 -

If it wasn't then it would be very uncomfortable, as the 30mm of latex wouldn't be enough. But I can't remember where I found that as it was ages ago now.0
