Annoying 'chirruping' phone!

Help please!
Most evenings at any time between 10.30 and midnight, my analogue phone (in the bedroom of course) 'tings' three or four times as if it's about to start ringing, but doesn't. This is really irritating and I wondered what is causing it to happen. It is the second phone; the main one is digital and cordless, but that one doesn't make a sound!
Any ideas / solutions gratefully received!

Are you on BT?
If you are, it could be BT performing line checks. We used to get the same thing on our phone line.
If you ring BT, they will send you a tinkle supressor (which despite the name is just a little box to plug into the main phone socket and then everything else plugs into this). It does something to the resistance of the line I beleive (although I may be wrong) and it stops the annoying crickets!!! (Chirrups, get it?)0 -
Have you got sky, which is connected to a phone line? As this was happening to us( usually in the early hours and woke me up). Sky said they would test earlier! Also advised me to disconnect the sky phone connection at night ( we did not need it connected because we had fullfilled our contract) If you have sky, best check with them before disconnecting your box from the phone line.0

Thanks everyone. No Wifi or Sky so I guess it's BT 'testing' the line. I'll have to give them a ring or get a tinkle suppressor!0
