I am buying my daughter a new Dell Mini 1011 but I am also looking for a 'External CD/ DVD drive'
I am very confused with all the different ones available - we have been looking at the Samsung se-s084c but there about 10 different models.
Please help, thanks

I got a Samsung SE-S084C/TS?S some months ago. Blue. Works perfectly well! I think the third character of the suffix represents the colour; R for red, B for Black, and so on...
Read the specs for the ones you're interested in! An important point to note is that it requires two adjacent USB ports to get enough power to run.
Edit: here's a US review...
Another edit: Play.com has six different colours, costing between £30 and £52. No, I haven't checked that the specifications are identical - but pink is the most expensive!0 -
There won't be much difference in them to be honest. My advice is go for the fastest read/write speeds.
Maybe the more expensive ones will have DVD/CD writing capability or may support other connections e.g. firewire and not just USB.0 -
Thanks
Are all these models compatable with Windows 7?0 -
There would be no reason not to be compatible with Windows 7 - the USB interface has been pretty standard just about during and after Windows 98 SE (which needed a driver for USB flash drives, for example)...
(The shorter answer is "Yes"!)0
