Florence fennel overwintering?

Will Florence fennel overwinter in the ground like regular fennel? Never grown it before, and more plants grew than I expected, so if I can leave them in the ground and just pull them as I want them, that would be great. Or if they die down and come up again next year, that would be OK too. Otherwise I'll have to find a way of preserving them for later use. Any ideas?
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?

No you must lift them before any severe frosts, as they are frost tender and the frost makes them go mushy.

Thanks, realfood. Looks like I'll be eating fennel every day for the next few weeks. Must be an acquired taste, 'cos I've tried giving some away, but no-one seems very keen.

When you have to pick them, they will keep for several weeks in the salad drawer of the fridge.
