Gloss Paint/Rain HELP!

OH has just painted the gloss onto the garage door and it is spitting with (unforecast) rain. The surface is now pitted with drops of moisture.
He thinks that the only option is to sand it all down and start again.

As you can imagine, he is not happy with the wasted time and wasted paint.

Anyone got any experience/advice, please.

well he won't need to sand it quite as much as he did before, if that's any consolation. He should have put the garage door up to at least keep some of it from being rained on.

Sorry that's not much help to him.:o

Happened to me doing windowsills before, and it is still noticeable once it dries off, but easy to give it a quick sand down and repaint them, not such a big area as a garage door.

If, however it isn't stopping the paint protecting the door, then does it really have to be redone?

It happens unfortunately try to pick a day where it less likely to rain granted past few days haven't been very good

Hopefully we might get a Indian summer, September past few years have been warm

Rub down the door, wash it to remove all dirt due to sanding and wait until a nice day, try and do it first thing in morning so give it time to dry
  • He may want to wait until the sun is shining on it before painting it so the surface it will compleatly dry and the paint will go off quicker.

Bad news he may need to chemically strip the paint off to the bare wood or metal then prime, under coat then gloss. May I suggest the use of a gloss roller to speed things up.

If you are happy with a pitted uneven finish simply lightly rub down and re gloss.

I can not help but think he should of seen the incomming dark clouds and thought twice about continuing to paint.

  • OH ended up lightly sanding and repainting. It doesn't look too bad - as if it has been painted with textured paint.
