What to look for when buying a TV?

Options
hi all.

my sister will be moving out to her 1st flat within the next 4-8 weeks and will be in need of a TV. She wants integrated freeview and probably 32 inch size. We want to get a decent TV for her but what should we be looking for to indicate that its a good TV? In terms of cost we dont want to go above £350.

Your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

All new TV's will come with a Freeview tuner.
Sony and Panasonic are generally considered the top brands and accordingly more expensive.
You could look at LG or Hitachi maybe for cheaper models.
Go to somewhere like Richer Sounds where they should have a reasonable selection, and where the staff know their products and prices are competitive.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I don't think that the OP's sister will be considering 3D TV with a budget of £350!

the amount of inputs is important as well with the amount of things that can be connected to the tv like bluray players and games consoles

All depends on what you call "decent" really, but you will have to increase that budget if you want what some people call "decent".

thanks for all your replies so far. i'll have a look at those two links. when i say decent i guess i mean something that will have a reasonable picture quality and wont breakdown after a few months! in terms of 'inputs' as mentioned, my sis is not really into games so i dnt see that she will get a console anytime soon. she will probably get a recorder and/or recorder with dvd player.

The make & cost of a television have no bearing on whether it will break down or not.
As far as picture quality goes, that is in the eye of the beholder (I'd take a look at the Sony that aliEnRIK linked to though).

Dunno how true this is. But ive read if you buy this tv TODAY
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL32EX403U-32-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B003BVI49E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1283153490&sr=8-1
    And put the code ~
    MYBRAVIA
in then you can get it for £330 quid!

(Dont read too much into the bad reviews, most of them are being pedantic, and those on about SD content obviously didnt realise it needs a few weeks running in first)
