Dress Alteration shop have lost the dress

I bought a dress for a wedding and took it to a shop to have the straps shortened.
However I went yesterday to collect it and they have lost it, I was told they were going to look for it and call me which they didn't.
What can I do now?

I would go back to the shop and ask them what they are prepared to do. Take with you the receipt for the dress if you have it so they know what sort of value they are dealing with.0

If you leave an item with someone they are liable for it - it's called bailment. They need to pay you for the full value of the dress.0

yeah, im sure they have to pay for that, they should be insured, to cover your property whilst in their care.It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'
