Just had a mailshot from smartenergyuk.com who not only state they can save you 40% on your annual energy bills but will also give a SUBSTANTIAL SUBSIDY and FULL REFUND on the installation of a solar panel on your house!!
Does anybody know anything about them - apart from them sponsoring Colchester United??
Or anybody got one of their systems and if so how do they fare???

Hi,
Solar power was still very new last year and may elec Suppliers had no ability to support it. BGas did and they signed up loads of people to solar, then lost them to other Suppliers. Any customers who moved to a Supplier not currently providing this option got badly messed around until Suppliers could adjust (Ofgem had not made all Suppliers support it then)
So, be careful to examine your Supplier's ability to bill you and make sure you check when you switch.
The problem with these is that you need to have an import/export meter fitted. This means you have 2 meters, 1 for your usage off the grid and 1 for what you put back in. Your meter readers then take both readings and you get a refund to your bill or direct to you based on the reading off your solar meter which is the elec you put back.
You don't put anywhere near what you use back, but it's a useful discount.
Worth noting that grants were from a goverment initiative so these guys won't be the only ones offering grants. The solar panel is fitted to your roof (in between):rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
