I assume you have comprehensive cover, if so give your Insurers a ring and report the accident so they can go about dealing with it
  • I advise doing a little homework and check that the bollard is lawfully placed. Ask the council to provide the traffic order that prohibits the passage of vehicles in that direction in that road. If there is no order then the bollard is placed unlawfully and the council will have to pick up the bill plus compensation.

  • thanks BD-couldn't get that page to load.

Update-car is worth no more than £500-if that but to me it's my mobility and it's priceless

An independent garage has assessed the damage-and it's £1700 or £1300 if I don't get the air con fixed.

Spent weekend looking at automatic cars -and trying to get into them-newer models have quite high seats which is harder to transfer into -so haven't found one yet

    Don't think it's worth an insurer's claim-I would lose £250 excess

Just don't know which avenue to go down-would love to hear from more people who have fallen foul of this booby trap

Clearer details of exactly what happened and how would allow people to give an opinion based on facts. I know its distressing and all on here want to help and this will assist.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Are the council going to claim for damage to the bollards?

Lots of clips of people crashing into bollards on youtube.

Never been there but seems strange to have a rising bollard to access a congestion zone?
Clips i have seen, They block access to restricted areas (Pedestrian zones, Loading only or Bus lanes)

I may be wrong but don't you have to tell your insurer anyway (even if not claiming)?

If I were you, I would be seeking advice from a disabled charity to help represent you in a claim against the Council (I really can't recommend Mobilise any more though as they have clearly been 'got at' by a PPC and don't even understand where Blue Badges actually apply let alone seem capable of comprehending the advice you need!).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
