Hi
We rent out our old house in Cambs, and the boiler died on Wednesday. I arranged, from Scotland, to get a few quotes for replacement of the boiler but the thing is we don't now anything about boilers and different types are mentioned on all the quotes. I wondered whether anyone could offer any comment on the quotes/boiler models/whatever? All quotes are for the replacement of the old boilder and fitting of a condensation trap/disposal.

Company 3
Potterton Baxi Ltd Main 30He

Our tenant is away for the bank holiday weekend. So we can't get it all started until the beginning of the seek. We welcome any comments.
Cheers

Good evening: from your list we would only fit the Vaillant (the Plus instead of the Pro) and would advise a Spirovent Magnabooster2 instead of a Magnaclean (history of leakage) as well as a powerflush (or chemical flush to keep costs down). Value for money options include the Remeha Avanta Plus and the Viessmann Vitoden 100 (5 year parts and labour warranty on both). Price should also include notification to Building Control via GSR and the completion of the Benchmark Log....price around £2000ish based on what you have been quoted in your area for the other appliances. More here.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the comments. I have a fair few quotes as you can see, what I was primarily seeking was advice relating to the boilers themselves, which are the most reliable, etc. and are the quoted details the norm...?

As I said....would only fit, from your list, a Vaillant and the 'quoted details' are quite sparse tbh....do you have full specification quotes? Take another look at my link for details on what should be included in a quote etc. For comments from RGIs who are based in the area try posting on DIYnot.
A boiler is only as good as it's installation and annual servicing.

Personally I would avoid the Feroli at all costs.
Baxi/Potterton/Main, all the same boilers, different badge, all average and ok.
Vaillant are better, but as said go for the Plus range. Vaillant have atrocious after sales service, especially in your area!!
As said look at the Broag Avanta Plus, better than any you have been quoted for IMO. Note though, canucklehead has the advantage of buying from a merchant that has a special arrangement with Broag that gives a full 5 year parts & labour warranty on them. The standard warranty is 5 years parts and 2 years labour. You may find an installer, like myself, who has a contract with Broag, who can also offer a full 5 year parts and labour warranty for no extra cost, but this is not the norm. So check the installer out thoroughly before hand.0 -
Any comments on the Glowworm boiler...?
We need to get this all booked in today.0 -
We generally fit Glowworm boilers and over the years havent had any major problems with them (fitting around 9 per year)- we also fit Magnacleans and havent had any problems with them either. The price for the Glowworm is what we would charge.0

Many thanks for all the info folks... in the process of trying to sort out the quotes and wanting to arrange for later this week.0

Glow Worm have the same aftersales staff as Vaillant!! Grrrrr.0
