Just thought I'd post a quick word of warning for anyone who shops in Mr M, but wants to avoid anything to do with 'the December event' until much closer to the time.......

You're going to have to avoid the bakery section like the plague, as we're due to start selling Mince Pies next week

(my manager mentioned to me this afternoon the stuff has had to be ordered today to arrive at the weekend, as the paperwork says they're to be available for sale from Monday)

Oooh! I love mince pies :):):)

Hi all, could I please be put down for £380 in September. (That's for me, OH, 2 big teenagers, 1 cat and 1 dog. It doesn't include school/college lunch money.) Thanks for the thread! :T:T

I have picked up my teenager's flu bug, so we will be eating from cupboards for a day or two until I feel human again. Should give me a good start for the challenge, though!

    Good old silver linings. :D

    Afternoon everyone :j

My month has got off to a good start - Been to Mr T and Mr A and spent £163.91 already  Now that is for everything we should need for the month with the exception of fresh stuff.

I'm trying a new tactic to keep me out of the supermarkets. As scary as my spend looks, that should be the bulk of it done and I won't need to go near a supermarket again this month. I am going to buy my fruit and veg from the local greengrocers and the market in town, and milk I will hopefully get DD to pick up on her way home from work. She can go in a shop and not spend a fortune - I can't :o

    Wish me luck :D

Kitty - this is us this month too. First monthly online shop came today £154.54. Only need fresh stuff including milk and bread and probably another whole chicken. Have had to store some stuff in the bedroom as we have run out of space!!:rotfl:

  • Hi all

Spent £65.02 at mr T's today. Fair bit already in cupboards but needed things like oil and tabasco and loo rolls so this was a bit of a stock up. Just been to my mums who gave me the vouchers she got from Mr T in the post for £10 off a £30 spend every week for next 4 weeks! Chuffed about those and now have absolutely no excuse not to meet my challenge!
:wall:Trying to get a grip

I just did a freezer and cupboard stocktake and wrote a menu plan for the next week. Already my shopping list is a lot smaller as a result. Can't believe i didn't do this sooner!

EllieA, any hints on what "weird and wonderful" things you have to use up? I had a tin of crab for about 3 years, and I eventually bit the bullet and made crab cakes with this, a bowl of mashed potato, some sweetcorn (from a tin, about 1/3 of a small one), and a couple of spring onions chopped up. Mixed all together, dipped in flour, egg and breadcrumbs, and then fried until golden. DD hasn't stopped asking for me to do them again!!

I used up a similarly old tin of chickpeas at the weekend, to make hummus for nibbles. OK, I had to buy the tahini paste, but otherwise I had everything and it is quite tasty if I say so myself. I have some for my lunch tomorrow with some crackers.

I am sure there are loads of great ideas from others, once we know what you have to make use of.
