Chantenay carrots - how do I know when they are ready?
I have an old belfast sink full of them but unsure when they will be ready. A friend said you will see the tops coming through but surely that will only happen if they grow right to the bottom of the sink??
I pulled one out the other day, curiosity got the better of me and it was probably an inch or so long but very thin and not very orange. Think I read on the packet that it was roughly 12 weeks, which must be about that now.
Any help help gratefully received:)

If you gently clear the soil from the shoulders, you can tell how thick it is without pulling. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I've found them to be incredibly thirsty carrots and the persistent winds that we've had dry them out more than I could have imagined. Mine are in troughs and were sown months ago, probably May. The folliage on mine is now begining to look a tad yellowish and the carrots are fat, aromatic and bursting with wonderful flavour. It's the first time I've grown carrots ( BBC diggin) and will do them again next year. Hope you enjoy yours.0
