Plum Seed - Will it Grow?

I know this may sound like a stupid question but having just eaten a plum, will the large seed from inside it grow if I plant it? If so, is there anything I have to do other than pop it into some soil and water it and will it one day in years to come, bare fruit?

Yes you can! First let it dry out for while on a sunny window sill. Store it in a dry place and plant in a pot in February next year. Will take you years to get any fruit though but I am sure you are patient. Alternatively, buy a good plum tree for about £9-99 from a DIY.

As m33r4 says, it will grow, but there is no promise it will be as good as the one you have just eaten, due to cross pollination in the orchard it came from, so you could find, after waiting 10 years for it to fruit, you have tiny sour plums

If you want plums, follow m33r4 advice and go and buy a named variety of tree, do a bit of research and get just what you like, so although Victoria is a good & reliable one, why not try something a bit different, like a Gage?
