I find you can adapt most casserole type recipes to a slow cooker, though there are some good books around, for soup add oodles of veg, stock, meat if you want, pulses, cook for 6 hours then blend, for casseroles add chopped veg, stewing steak or chicken, stock herbs spices and cook for about 6-8 hours. I've also cooked whole chickens in there, just need to add enough water or stock to the pot.
