Best (cheapest) Insurer for new drivers?

I will be taking my driving practical test soon, and have every confidence of passing. When I do, my husband will no longer drive to work and I will have main use of our car (2004 Vauxhall Zafira). Can anyone recommend an insurance company that won't charge me the earth for being a newly qualified driver? And should I get a quote with me or my husband as main driver???

I believe you should declare the main driver to be whoever actually is the main driver - in this case yourself.

Get quotes online for both ways round and see which is cheapest, Tesco seem to be fairly good for newly qualified drivers but just look around, if your husband is going to be the main driver, try Direct Line as you will then build up NCB as a named driver

The main driver has to be the person who is the main driver - failure to do this is fraud and can lead to your insurance being cancelled and a criminal record.

There is no insurer that is cheapest for any group of people as there are many rating factors and whilst Tesco may be the cheapest for one newly qualified driver Privilege may be the cheapest for another.
