Reverse Phone Numbers

For some years now it has been illegal to reverse engineer telephone number software so that an address can be found from a phone number.

Unfortunately, many national phone companies make data and tools available on the internet so that anyone can determine, at least, a post code for a given phone number (but not the house number or customer name). It even works for ex-directory numbers (unlike telephone number software).

I estimate that I can determine the post code for virtually any UK phone number within about an hour simply by visiting a few websites. I am prepared to do this for anyone if they want to send me a PM with their ex-directory phone number - if only to prove a point! I will call you back once I have determined your post code. I will then tell you which websites I used to find your post code so that you can complain to the operators of those websites!

Comments

  • Well, one member gave me his unlisted telephone number and I rang him back about one hour later with his post code!

Note: An unlisted number is not even an ex-directory number. Directory enquiries have no record of any person having an unlisted number!

For example, if Mr. X of 1 High Street, Newtown is ex-directory then directory enquiries will say ex-directory if you ask for his number. If his neighbour, Mr. Y of 3 High Street is unlisted then directory enquiries will say they have no listing for anyone of that name at that address.
