Ikea wooden work surfaces - different colours!

We are just finishing off our installation of an Ikea kitchen and last night opened the last two pieces of work surface, for the kitchen island, which are beech.....and they are different colours! One is much paler than the other. They are supposed to fit side by side to make a squarish block and there is a very noticeable difference in colour. OH doesn't think they look too bad, I think they look ridiculous!
So here are the questions - will the oil treatment that has to be done change the colour? I suppose what I'm trying to get at is, if I treat the paler one more frequently, will it darken more and therefore come closer in colour to the other piece?
Is there anything I can do? Other than taking one back and hoping that the replacement will be a better colour!
Thanks!

if it's a natural product then Ikea may simply say they can't control the colours of nature.
They may replace it but if it's wood then it's not Ikea's fault that the colour is slightly different.
why didn't you put all the wood together to compare colours before starting?
Oil treatment may well hide it - I'd have thought it would disguise it quite a bit if it doesn't remove it completely.

Thanks for your reply. The main part of the kitchen has white work surfaces, it's just the butcher's block that has the wood tops. We have finished the main part and are now moving on the butcher's block. Ikea advise not to expose the wood out of the plastic and packaging until you are ready to use it and so that you can oil it straight away. That's why we haven't discovered the problem before!
Thanks for your thoughts on using the oil. I shall keep my fingers crossed!0 -
It's wood! The chances of getting it too match exactly are pretty slim. I have 4 lengths of the beach worktops and they are all slightly different but don't care because they look stunning!0

Something like that would bug me..BUT being wood there is always a chance it is going to be different so depends on how much it will annoy you and if you can get a piece a nearer match?
Good look! x0
