Bed Purchase

My father in law is 78 and has bowl cancer needed a new bed for his 51 down syndrome son.
He needed this bed fairly quickly, and was very grateful that Dreams promised it would br delivered within five days, so he didn't mind that he was paying more than he could afford.
On arriving home he received a phone call telling that the bed would now take five weeks to deliver, but after my wife phoned to cancel the order they reduced the time to ten days.
When the bed was delivered my wife discovered that my father had also bought a ten year guarentee for £69, that he said he didn't really want plus £60 pounds to deliver and take away the old bed.
The staff in Dreams appear very freindly and helpful, but be warned they are just very good salesmen who tell lies to get yor money.0 -
Before sending any letters go into the shop and speak to the manager on a busy day.
Make sure you do this where other customers can see, if he still refuses to give your money back stay in the store and tell other customers as they are about to buy a bed.
If the manager threatens to call the police, say good, I can tell them what you are doing also.0 -
LOL many thanks folks for all the help and advice and guess what I bought the bed in Dreams and it has been far more than a dream it has been a nightmare. I have already spoken to everyone involved and got nowhere. I have since drafted up a diplomatic letter and have given them 10 days to reply or straight to small claims court after also seeking advice form CAB. Many thanks for all the help and I will keep you all informed of the outcome. This wouldn't be by normal approach to a dispute as I would be shy and quiet but honestly I can't afford to go to this loss of money.0

I wish you the best of luck with this - as others have said, a Small Claims dispute is really easy to do and nothing to be worried about.
I hate fatuous claims but I'm all for standing up for your rights. I will be surprised if the store doesn't back down before it gets to Court.ELITE 5:2

If you send a "letter before action" and make it clear that you've already tried many avenues to get your money back, then hopefully they'll take it seriously and pay up before you even need to take court action!
(and if it does go that far, many companies will settle out of court!)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Good luck with this and let us know how it goes. It's not a huge amount of money but IMHO it's the principle of it!0

Well just a quick update but I got a letter back from them today restating their position and saying I should have read the terms and conditions laid down on the form I signed when obviously I didnt think they were too relevant when the store manager checked the computer while I was there and verbally promised me that they had a bed in stock. Well next stop is the small claims court of which I have no experience aint looking forward to this but no other option. Has anyone any advice of the small claims court procedures? Just be warned folks from my experience of when buying a new bed and the empty promises of a salesman even the shop manager in the bigger stores like this.0

Probably the best way to go about it is by looking at https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome, and starting your claim online. Alternatively you could visit your local county court and pick up the forms there. Also the Citizens Advice Bureau can be useful for things like that. You need to set out a brief statement of what happened ("Particulars of Claim"), sticking absolutely to the facts, and mentioning that the terms and conditions were varied by the oral agreement you made with the salesman. Good luck.0
