Will NCD be lost due to insurance gap years?

My wife has her own NCD before she stoped her own car insurance and became a named driver on my policy. After 6 years and now she wants her own policy and we are wondering if she has lost her previous NCD? If not, which company should we ask to provide proof of NCD? Her original insurer or the current one? We switched insurer once during the 6 years. Thanks.

My understanding is that 2 years is usually the limit, though some may be more generous, particularly if named on another policy.0

as above, however she may be able to get an introductory bonus either via a broker or your current insurer and mirror the ncb0

You might find the insurance costs are not excessive even without her own no claims. When we went from two cars to one, I got some insurance quotes for my wife with and without a no claims bonus. The cost difference was enough for us to worry about it - around 10% I seem to recall.
I have read on here that other people in a similar situation take 'turns apiece' insuring the family car. This keeps the no claims active for both people.
I assume when you say she wants her own policy again she is also getting her own car? You can't both insure the same vehicle.0 -

Thank you guys for your advice.
Yes, she's getting her own car.
In case someone is renewing their policy soon, Tesco is offering free MOT and service for car insurance customers, which could be a reasonable deal if someone's quote is below £100 and get the free MOT and service worth £100ish. :rotfl:0
