Car hire - insurance for excess ?

I need to do a few weekend car hires over the forthcoming months and my nearest and cheapest decent place (perhaps ?) is Enterprise in North London.
All the usual book online etc. but their excess, say around £600 can be reduced to zero or near zero by paying £10 per day. However, as the car hire is often only around £20 per day or less than £50 per weekend, this is disproportionate.
Also, if I were to do 20 days hire, then I'd be paying £200 to cover a £600 excess, which seems ludicrous.
So, whilst I know I can and will go googling, does anyone recommend another way of reducing the excess, perhaps even via an annual policy, just as one would with annual travel insurance.

We buy an annual policy - usually around £39 as we hire cars on holiday a couple of times a year. We have just renewed ours with www.icarhireinsurance.com and have got money back with Quidco. They automatically cover your country of origin and you dont have to be a certain mileage from home.0
