advice please

As from today i am unemployed, made redundant.
I have no idea how to go about claiming for jsa (if i am entitled). Hope to do supply work.
i am married with 2 young children, husband self employed earning under £10,000 a year.
I am very worried as we really need a new boiler and a damp proof course, would i get help for these things?
Thanks

  • If you have paid enough NI conts for tax year 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 then you could get cont based JSA.

    You could apply for a warm front grant.

    You should get WTC and your CTC may increase.

    You could get some CTB and LHA/HB.

    CTB = council tax benefit
    LHA = Local housing allowance (if you rent private)
    HB = housing benefit (if you rent from council)
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • Just to clarify, LHA is in fact HB. The reference to LHA is simply to distinguish the method of calculating the amount of rent to be used in the assessment of HB.

    Sounds to me like the OP owns her own home; therefore she will not be entitled to LHA or HB.
