I bought Marconi shares in 2000/2001 before the technology crash and they were held in Halifax share dealing account. I am now dealing again and may be making over the capital gains allowance of £10,100? in this tax year. When I looked back into my account these 730 marconi shares were minused off the account in May 2002 (scheme of arrangement) at 811.58p a share can I offset these losses against my gains in this tax year. I know I havn't used them before?

It looks (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cgt/negvalist.htm#m) as though it wasn't a straight loss and there is a formula listed at the foot of the page.
But yes, as long as the loss was reported to HMRC in a timely fashion, you can use as much of the loss as you need to this year, or any future year.0
