Trying to get quotes for moving:j.

I'm moving from the South to the North, approximately 205 mile journey. How much would you expect this to cost? First quote to arrive is £1900 + £400 for packing:eek:. The packing cost I'm very willing to pay to avoid the stress but the £1900 seems an awful lot but they would need to do this over two days due to the distance.

A long time since I have used a removal company, do you know how much you paid and how far were you moving?

What sort of house do you have eg 3 bed detached if flat (At either end) what floors are they.

Have the removal companies told you the size of the load (They normally call it the cube).

What towns are you moving from / to

sounds pricey to me, get a number of quotes. We paid less than that to move from Northern Ireland to England with packing (paid about the same to move from England to Northern Ireland in the first instance with packing).

I just got 3 quotes today. And I'm still a bit bewildered by them. I am doing a 120 mile round trip, one day move, Midlands to Shropshire, with a weeks notice. I'm doing the majoirty of the packing myself, they just bubble wrap the telly and stuff.

Phoned 4 companies. Best recommended one was fully booked, next one said "I'm a bit busy to come out, but it'll all fit in 2 transits won't it?" Erm...you're the one with the removal experience, isn't that your job to tell me? 2 companies had slots that day and came round yesterday to assess volume. The first bloke had a look round, asked what exactly I was taking, asked about access to new property and said he'd call me back. 2nd did the same, explained exactly how they'd wrap it all up, how they'd load the van, and showed me a portfolio file of happy customers and photos of the different trucks. He quoted me £875 and I choked on my cuppa and showed him out. Was in shock so I bought 6 flatpack boxes out of his van just to get rid of him.

1st bloke rang back first thing this morning and said he'd conicidentally got chatting to bloke No2 who they must sub-contract to, and they both realised they were pricing the same job. He apologised and said he'd never manage to undercut him as No2 is known for being cheapest in area. He then quotes me £548, Hhmmmm. Bloke No1 is is then!

No idea how their quotes can be so different. Its exactly the same service I'm paying for. All insured. Everything. No idea how they can be so different.

If you want to move yourself, then renting a tail lift big van thing is about £150 a day, and rope in some strong mates. But I guess you're end destination being miles away might be a prob. I'd keep on ringing round if I were you, and price up a DIY job too. You might get the same variation in price I got.

Failing that, I have the number of a bloke who is confident he can fit the contents of a cluttered 3 bedroomed house into 2 transits.:rotfl:
