Management Company Buildings Insurance - Please Help!

I have recently suffered some accidental damage to my sink which has left me with a problem - i need to claim for the damage to my sink. Now according to my insurance schedule bathroom fixtures are fixed items covered by buildings insurance of which i pay to the management company. I phoned the management company who duly tell me they will send out a claims form, only to now inform me later that such damages to bathroom furniture is 'not covered'.

Now im no expert but after doing a little research it seems bathroom fixtures is pretty standard cover on a buildings insurance policy. What can i do about this? Basically im not insured for damage to my bathroom/kitchen furniture and bearing in mind how much i pay in premiums to the management company im pretty unhappy about this. Do i have to take out my own buildings insurance to cover this shortfall in cover or do the management company have a duty of care to provide the required level of cover for its tenants??

Any advice would be a big help!

Do you know which Insurance company it is with by any chance ? (If you have the first part of the policy number we can probably guess)
  • Dont have that info yet - just making preliminary enquiries about how to solve this, but i can get hold of it, i assume this is something the management company will have to supply if i ask for it....

As you pay for it you are entitled to it.

They often say things are not covered to discourage claims or through ignorance

The policy probably has an excess of circa £250
