What is the law on cars from a business ?

Options
I just bought a citroen c3 desire 2005/6 from a ford garage (was a trade in from previous owner, and i traded in my 98 plate ford), it is a fantastic car, BUT when i took it for a test drive i just thought that cus i was nervous and was used to a 98 ford the peddles would take a little getting used too...

Anyway because i am a home carer i use it alot, but i am finding i am not comfortable, my heels do not touch the floor so my feet can not relax when i am driving hence my calfs are aching. And sadly the front seat does not go down, i feel like i am to high. (even though the book shows a lever where you can adjust, But there is no lever in the car)

I also took out a year warrenty with the garage, they are really nice people, i am waiting for the owner to get back from holiday.

I do feel bad, but i need a car i feel comfortable with, and having spent over 4k i expect just that.

I have only had it for just over a week, what are my rights? Do you think i could ask to swap for another car and pay any difference if necessary?

you know when you buy something from say argos and get a 14 day money back quarentee etc? Is it similar to a car business?

  • Unfortunately no, it's not like Argos.
The only problems with the car are personal preferences and problems you are having yourself. Theres nothing wrong with the car.
The manual you have is possibly a generic one? That shows seat adjustment even although not all C3's have the adjustment. Changing the seat (at your own expense) for one from a breakers yard that IS adjustable is an option.
This may also make the driving position more comfortable for you and allow you to rest your heel on the floor.

Your rights are literally none. They don't have to give you a refund, part payment or anything if you buy something you later decide you don't want. Argos do a 14 day guarantee off their own bat, not because there's a legal requirement.

Sadly, the C3 is a very uncomfy car. And as with all French cars, they have a funny peddal layout too.

You could ask the garage if there is anything else in stock that you find more comfy.

You're not the first and you won't be the last to buy a car that seemed suitable in the brief 10 minutes you get to sit in it. Don't beat yourself up about it.

The problem is the dealer has to make money, they will have to re-advertise the car and there will now be a new owner on the vehicle which will lower its value and make it harder to sell.

Most dealers will probably tell you to **** off but offer you a PX price and then sell you a new car, this could cost you £1k+ but if the dealer is nice he may offer a decent px rate if you were to buy another car of him which had a bigger profit margin.

Really though you have no rights at all. I feel for you it is an easyt mistake to make but it is very important you get comfy with a car before you buy it. It may well be that with some adjustments the car becomes comfortable. You also get used to things.

Have you thought what kind of car you would prefer instead? Either way, let the dealer know and he can let you know how much extra it will cost to change.
