My AIP from the Post Office states how much I have asked them to lend me, not the maximum amount. So if the OP's AIP is like mine, then he should be OK, as the EA would be none the wiser about what the theoretical maximum would be.

I got two when I was househunting, both were the amount requested, however I did apply for the most I wanted to spend and was looking for houses below that amount. However the mortgage I was intending to get was 60% LTV so just by looking at the AIP they wouldn't really know if I could afford it.

In speaking to about seven estate agents on insisted I see their advisor (I ran late and missed the appointment). I told the other I wasn't interested and they backed down.

No doubt you will provide evidence they are not ?

Simple - if they are working for the EA, they are not independent.
