To the OP - you should seek whole of market advice and yes you should look for one that is fee free.

I would not however recommend the above in terms of ringing 3 or 4 different brokers because you could end up with 3 or 4 different options and you could become more confused than you need to be. These options will not be because one adviser is giving you better or worse advice than the other but it could be that either they have exclusive deals or different opinions of certain lenders due to bad service for example.

Just to try and put another way if its not clear - You have been given charcoles online as a broker to use and they are operate from a panel of at leat 36 lenders so it also could be that L&C have access to a lender that Charcols are not using or that Charcol have an exclusive that L&C cannot access. By doing the above you could confuse the matter and lose all faith in using a broker full stop.

You need to clealry find a broker you trust and if you cannot get local recommendation then the brokers that are quoted above are all reputable companies but have different ways of working, which may not suit you. In fact, I am not sure all of them are fee free - could be wrong though?

If you want to sit down with someone, ask friends/family/colleagues for recommendations as you will know exactly what you are getting involved with that way.

Because that is what is on page 208 of The Money Diet book written by Martin Lewis founder of this site
ALSO PAGE 209 QUOTES www.charcolonline.co.uk,and all the other brokers quoted, these are reputable companies in Martin's book have you got a problem with them .

Why should the OP speak to three or four brokers and then complete via a completely different company? That is completely stupid - it means giving their personal details (which can take up to 45mins to an hour) to 3 or 4 different brokers, could involve multiple credit checks which could damage their credit rating, and then doing it all over again to complete the mortgage through yet another broker??!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: that might be OK for an obsessive retired ex military person with nothing better to do with their time ;) but most people have busy lives.

At the end of all that they are not guaranteed to get the best service from one of the larger companies, and most people prefer personal service that cannot always been given through a larger company - so what you are saying just doesn't make sense. The OP would be better of seeing a local broker and placing business that way.

I find your comments amusing to say the least because most anti broker forum users like yourself at least have the savvy to tell clients to ask a broker for a commission rebate and if the broker can't/won't do it to go through mortgage genie.:rotfl:

    Perhaps you should try that?

I suggest you read page 208 of The Money Diet book written by Martin Lewis
founder of this site, and perhaps have a discussion, with him.I have a copy of the book ,but if you want one you will have to buy one yourself ,because mine is precious. You state that what is quoted from the page 208 Money Diet does not make sense ,refer to above quote for clarification of your words

Get mortgage advice for free. As mortgage advice is only paid for when you complete the mortgage,a broker simply telling you it's pick doesn't incur a fee.As best practice always get more than one opinion, speak to three or four brokers then complete via L&C .this way best advice and no fee.

It may well be quoted in the money diet book, I have never read it and no disrespect to Martin won't do either as I am quite capable of looking after my finances myself.

So answer me this question then Kenshaz, where do you draw the line between saving yourself money, and wasting your own time (which for most working people with active lives is the case) and wasting the time of 3 or 4 fee's free brokers. Not to mention the confusion if several brokers recommend different products and the risk of multiple credit checking. For those less savy, which is most people they struggle to understand ONE mortgage they are presented with 100% - so how are they meant to cope with more and still make an informed decision?

Everyone is ranting on about brokers should be fee's free, and rebate commission on larger cases etc, but how on the whole do people expect us to remain completely fee's free when we get urine takers treating us as quote machines and sucking our brains dry to do the dirty and give us nothing in return?

This is why more and more brokers are returning to fee charging or deposit taking for their work - its hard enough working for proc fee's only, particularly if you live in an area where house prices are not ridiculous, without people being encouraged to place all their business through poultry farms like L & C.

Kenshaz - did you put your hand up and say "sir, sir" when you posted that? I know you were once military but honestly, people can really say what they want on this site without being reprimanded. Thats the idea of a public forum. You really must lose that mentality it is bad for you.

In your text above, you are not pointing out anything to Martin Lewis or long term forum members that they don't already know. When he originally released the book and also an article called "how to get the best mortgage advice for free" there was absolute uproar amongst the regular mortgage brokers and financial advisers on this site because it was interpreted by us that he was encouraging the public to abuse our services.

The discussion/thread was very lengthy and there were a lot of heated conversations, so check your history before you once again begin attacking broker on this site.
This site is for consumers not brokers,Martin Lewis is the champion of the consumer, and his ethics founded this site ,how dare you come onto his site and peddle your ware.and condemn a book that you have not even read and never will by your own admission

At the end of the day Kenshaz you have told a member of the public to do something that could be very detrimental to that person and you are more focused on SHOUTING at the people on here and hiding behind a book.

Martin is not a qualified mortgage adviser but is a very savvy financially minded person and it will have been impossible for him to consider every angle of what he has written. He has my greatest respect for what he has done on this site and in trying to educate the consumer.

I am sure that this would have been an oversight or a consequence that he may not have realised at the time when he wrote that book all I can say is that due to arm chair mortgage advisers, my job can be made increasingly difficult because people disrespect my qualifications and experience because they feel they know better.

I would have had the biggest respect for you had you just said "sorry, I got it wrong here guys and apologies to the OP for potentially screwing you without knowing" but you only confirmed my first impression of you as being someone who is too proud to admit when they are wrong.

Please, please do not give anybody advice like this again as they may not really thank you once they realise what effect you have had!

Are you accusing me of self promotion Kenshaz? Would you be so kind as to back up your outrageous claims with some actual evidence at some stage?

Mr Lewis is well aware that he has my greatest respect for the creation of this site as I have spoken to him on occassions. My loyalty to the site and my beliefs in its aims are evident to all due to the amount of help I offer on here, without intention of personal gain and in my free time.
