Have you not looked into this before now?
You should have insurance if you've exchanged already? Buildings and contents.
Council tax, tv licence, water rates, gas, electric.
erm... phone, broadband,0 -
Yes I have already looked into this but am getting very anxious as the date arrives and want to make sure i havent forgot anything, my mortgage provider has given me free b+c insurance for a month after exchange. I was thinking more of personal insurances than council tax etc.

Hi J4ne,
Congratulations! W're in the same boat - completing on 3/9 so very exciting!
Regarding personal insurances etc. - are you buying in your own name or with someone else? I have just bought with my partner and we have both taken out life assurance that will pay off the mortgage if something happens to one of us so that the other one won't lose the house. Also maybe think about sickness/unemployment type things perhaps to make sure you can cover the mortgage payments if something happens to you or you lose your job, although this is not something we have taken out at the moment.
I don't know that much about it all but I think there is a good guide on the MSE site somewhere that covers these types of insurance so might be worth reading to see if they are something that you might feel safer with. I think a lot depends on your individual circumstances etc so they may not be suitable for everyone, but worth a look to see what is available, and read through the smallprint and any exclusions on the policies before deciding.
Try:

there might also be something about other covers - sickness/critical illness and unemployment etc. somewhere if you try a search on MSE.
good luck with the move

Same here, we exchanged contracts unexpectedily on Friday and have a moving date for next Friday 3/9. It's been a year of HELL, thanks to a short leasehold on my house, but thats all behind us and we're looking forward to a move on Friday, it's gonna be a tough week, but we'll pull through. People who we bought off set the 3rd as a deadline and it worked out.
As others have said, all the insurances should be sorted out by now for you, I can only add to make a comprehensive list of all the people/business you need to inform of the change of address, and as a back up pop along to the post office and have your mail redirected. It's a simple process and cost me £39.99 for a year.0
