I think you'll find they're part of Zurich Assurance now.

When I worked in insurance we called them 'Allied Crowbar' because their life assurance agents were soooooo horrible to deal with on the phone (and, allegedly, mis-sold policies all too often). We felt they must threaten punters with a crowbar to force them to take out policies that were clearly unsuitable (this was in the eighties).

Does that sound familiar or was your agent a good guy?

It's a plan that paid out in the eventuality of me becoming unable to work. I'm redundant now so can't really afford such luxuries anymore.
