Not sure if this is the right place but.....................
I have some friends that are moving over here from Ireland, they want to bring their pet parrot over with them. What is the usual proceedure, do they need to quarantine it???? Do they need to apply somewhere to bring him over????

Don't think they need to tell anyone or quarantine it. You certainly don't need to for a dog (a single one anyway, might be different if your were bringing a whole gang over!).
On a moneysaving note, if they're getting the ferry over, Stena are cheaper than P&O and don't charge you for your animals. P&O make a surcharge of £20.
P&O Livestock/Pets details
Stena only have details about their Harwich - Holland route, but they're very helpful if you e-mail them."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0 -
I would definitely check before travelling. The following is an extract taken from the DEFRA website
"Pet birds may be imported from either EU or third countries subject to a specific licence under which they will be required to spend 35 days in domestic quarantine".I have nothing better to do!!!!

I don't think this actually applies to pets coming from Ireland. The ROI, unlike most of the other European countries (including the UK) still has full quarantine. Because the website states tat 'No preparation or documentation is necessary for the movement of pets directly between the UK and the Republic of Ireland' (and the ROI is the only country that this applies to), I think it likely that the rules on bird quarantine won't apply either.0
