Killing some time in the Heathrow area

  • I was trying to work out a way to get to virginia water lake by public transport - not possible

If you are still desperate to escape the Mcdonalds, strip lighting and policemen with guns then the 441 bus will take you to Egham in just over 1/2 hour. Engleford Green is nice too but more chance of finding something to eat in Egham. There is an ok italian cafe place and a couple of pubs if I remember. I think this would be preferable to Uxbridge myself. Buses are every 30 minutes. A taxi would take about 20 minutes if you suddenly run out of time (local minicab would be less than £20 I would imagine but not 100% sure) http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/441.htm (there are a couple of pubs that are ok and cheap in stanwell - nothing spectacular though - looking at timetable the bus stops outside one but cant remember if this is the one I have eaten at)

You can also get a bus (20 minutes according to the timetable) to Feltham train station and from there go to Richmond (about 12 minutes on the train - just check South West Trains are running ok). RIchmond is full of nice places - not cheap but no more expensive than eating at airport. http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/285.htm
  • If you have that amount of time, I would suggest going to Windsor definitely.

Windsor great park is great for a walk, the castle is nice to look around, the town great for a bit of shopping.

Would it not be quicker to get a train to Heathrow from Manchester?
