"circumstances beyond their control" - Nonsense. The hotel was being greedy by deliberately overbooking their hotel with the aim of maximising occupancy and profit.
So when it goes wrong for them, it shouldn't be a case of giving a £2 bottle of wine to make up for their greed.
It was this type of greed in the airline industry that lead to legislation being imposed where if they bump you off a flight due to overbooking, that they have to pay you substantial compensation.0
