Lilac tree is no more...very sad.

My beautiful lilac tree has died this year and the wind last night has blown it down. I am very sad.

Can anyone give me some tips as to getting out the roots easily, it was quite old and maybe something that will grow quite quickly in its place.
I have a Mimosa tree in a pot but I am worried to plant it there.

Any ideas welcome.

Many thanks
Emma

What size are we talking about. Obviously hiring a man with a stump-grinder machine is easiest, if not the cheapest!

If you fancy something completely different, a stipa gigantea. Mine was doing loads of 8-foot stems in it's 2nd year after planting and looks great shimmering in the breeze.
