How often to rewax dining table with wax finish?

Options
Good morning folks!

I'm looking for any advice on how often I should rewax a table that I have just finished with wax this past weekend.

I've not had a lot of luck finding any info on this, but as it was a lot of work to refinish the table, sand it down and to apply 4 coats of wax before buffing them, we'd like to protect the table.

Suggestions and advice welcome!

Thanks!

  • Hello everyone,

Apologies for the bump, but in light of the long weekend having just gone by I thought that everyone might have been out enjoying a bit of sun.

If any DIY-ers can give some advice it would be much appreciated!

    Cheers!

What does the wax you used say about how often it should be reapplied?

Sadly, no info on the container and the internet isn't turning up much.
It was Colron Natural Beeswax Wax that we applied about 1 week ago.

In addition to wondering how often I should rewax it, I'm wondering why it sometimes smudges and when articles are sat on the table they leave an impression in the wax finish. Should I work on it a bit more?

    Cheers!

I think your putting too much wax on, you only need a small amount, the secret is elbow grease...

You need to work it in, little and often. The reason your getting smudges is your leaving small lumps of wax that are still soft .

Natural beeswax like you have is best, so just wax it once a month for about 6 months then once every cpl of months and that will form a good hard layer of protection..

I have a mahogony Longcase clock circa 1820 and I wax it once every 3 months and it looks great. You will also find it helps to stop timber shrinking too much if you have central heating, they call it "Feeding ".........One final thing, whatever you do, don't put hot cups on it, heat, moisture and wax don't mix.........Coasters, bigguns

I need to get out more........:D

It sounds as though you need to polish it some more! You shouldn't see marks.

Thanks everyone! I'll follow the above advice (polishing now, rewaxing in future) and see how I get on! Much appreciated!
