Changing student bank account!

Hi everyone!
I would just like a bit of advice on this. After several !!!!-ups by my current bank (the latest being they want to change my student account to a graduate account even though I have not completed my degree AND having been told that... now needing to go into branch to sort it) I am strongly considering changing bank for my last year.
I'm currently with Barclays and have been since I was about 15 (I'm 21 now). I'll start my final and 4th year in Uni this September and at the moment have a 0% overdraft of £1500.
Would it be possible to change bank accounts with a new bank (I have no idea which one, any recommendations), while getting the same or more overdraft?
I believe I have an excellent credit history, with a credit card for the past year, about 5-6 mobile phone contracts, credit from HFC bank all completed and paid before the year was up and no problems at all. (I do have one recently returned payment due to Vodafone taking money out earlier than they should have, but the lady on the phone advised me this won't cause any issues as it was my only one!).
How easy is it to change bank account? Would I need to inform my work/student finance etc of my new bank details? (I'm assuming yes).
Basically I'm aiming to go into several branches tomorrow to see, but just thought I would ask on here first!
If there is anything else I should consider (i.e. whether staying because I'd have 6 years history with barclays is important) then I'd love to hear it.
Thanks all!
