Am I looking for a vanity unit they just don't make?

I'm after a unit for the downstairs loo. It can't be wall mounted as the pipes come up from the floor. It can't be any deeper than 350mm although that's really pushing it, 300mm deep or less would be better.

I want one of the rectangular versions where the basin doesn't protrude past the unit...something like this >

but all the ones that are around 300mm deep, are also narrower than I would like at around 400 - 500mm wide. I would like 700mm wide preferably, it would suit the space available so much better.

Any suggestions?

  • Basin here and as Andrew b above says, maybe get a joiner to make what you want or find a wall mounted one and box in the pipes underneath and paint / tile the boxing in the same colour as the walls and you won't even notice. you can get slimline traps and fittings to minimise the pipe work underneath anyway

Got an HIB brochure here Canuklehead but nothing suitable width wise.

Weston, that unit might do at a push depth wise but don't think I can justify (or afford) that cost for a small cloakroom tbh.

I do really quite like that though......... :)

Might be worth giving these guys a call and seeing if they've got any slight seconds - they are just down the road from us and I've picked up some decent stuff cheaper. The Roper Rhodes factory is next door so they get all the seconds etc.

You don't need a joiner sunshine. Seriously the cost of these things is extortionate. Reminds me i must take a picture or two of my finished bathroom units...might give you some inspiration..no joiners just my Dad and I and some MDF. Not sure what it cost TBH as my Dad bought the MDF and cut the panels by handsaw for me but i'm sure it was less than £40 for two units including handles, soft-close buffers, and furniture assembly blocks..cupboard paint cost me nothing as it was a freebie as compensation for some other duff paint from the same manufacturer!

Any if your lazy you can buy the door/false drawer fronts from Wickes or B&Q.

I know that and you know that but OP says they don't want to make their own! They may not have suitable DIY skills or may just want to buy out of the box as such, ours is not to reason why. We are all different.

From a pure MSE perspective your suggestion is of course right on the money ;)

Lol andrew...I'm spending my days taping and filling plasterboard joins at the moment, then I have to seal the new doors, paint the rooms and build a 'floating wall' to house tv etc.

I really don't need anything else to do. Buying off the shelf is just such an easy option right now. :D

However I do take the point about exact custom size and cost. :p:D
