FREE 0845/0870 numbers for your home or business

Hi all,

I've found a FANTASTIC company who offer completely free 0845 numbers!

I've spoken with the owner, Andrew, on the phone and he assures me that their company will NEVER issue an invoice, unless you want the number routed to a mobile (then it's 12p per minute for the incoming calls).

He'll even pay you commission if you have a large volume of calls coming in through the service!

I was blown away - my two numbers were set up and working in under 24 hours and I even ordered a few for my web design clients.

Now before someone gets up on their high horse about 0845 numbers not being the cheapest way to call, I wanted to list this as sometimes a small company operating from home or similar does not want their home number on business cards, websites and the like. This service allows you to print things up safe in the knowledge you can reroute the number anytime you want (just drop him an email), and you know that no-one will know your home or office number unless you tell them!

I spent a while researching these numbers on the net, and every other company I could find either charged a setup fee, a fee per minute for incoming calls, or both!

The site is found at http://www.08450870.com/1405/frames.php

He tells me he can set up any other type of number you might require too, from the mere 0845 through 0870 on to premium 09 numbers! All pay commission too.

I promise I am not affiliated with this site at all, in any way. I am simply linking to it as I honestly believe I have stumbled accross a true gem of a company, offering great service for free! Now that is moneysaving!

Then you did not look very far. There are plenty of companies providing such a service, and many for no set-up charge.

I have about 4 of these numbers, all free, all unpublished, and not used by anyone but me, except the fax to email number (which I'd excuse by saying that it would be about 5p per call to any type of number, and it's only been used about 6 times).

Although you claim not to want any moralistic replies, you appear to be quite happy to espouse cynically receiving commission from over-charging the people that call you.

Your last remark that is moneysaving is wide of the mark, as it would cost me 3 to 7.5 pence a minute to call you, instead of free. If you really want the call diversion or other extra facility, then pay for it yourself for perhaps under a penny a minute

Other people here will know more, but I suspect you need to fulfil certain requirements of ICSTIS to run a premium rate number like 09xx. And most people would be totally unable to call such a number from a mobile.

Overall, your post reads more like advertising than moneysaving, and should perhaps be moved to the Referrals Board.

And from a mobile with inclusive minutes it'd cost .............?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • You might care to read what Martin MSE thinks of these numbers before promoting the services of someone supplying them.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1086555604,78422,

The site in question also makes some misleading statements.

"Callers pay a local rate call charge from anywhere in the UK when they call an 0845 number - 3.36p per minute peak rate, and 0.85ppm at any other time.

"Callers pay a national rate call charge from anywhere in the UK when they call an 0870 number"

Local and National Calls were abolished some time ago.

On the payment front they say.

"There is a minimum annual rebate level of £100.00, this is for administration purposes."

Looks like Spam by the back door to me.

    Have you read the rules.

  • Appreciate my sentiments everybody, I'm genuinely impressed with this company, and am not involved with them in any way.

The point I was making is that SOME people don't want to give out a home number in the initial stages of a relationship. Having an 0845 number means that your promotional material etc does not go out of date if you move and cannot keep your geographic number.

If someone calls you then you can give them your geographic number. You can even list yourself on https://www.saynoto0870.com if you like!

They also provide a cheap way for your clients to call you if you only operate on a mobile - they pay 0845 rate while you pickl up the tab for the incoming mobile call.

You can provide a 0845 AND a geographic number on your site - then if someone uses a good call plan giving them cheap/free geographic calls then they can use that, if not and are on vanilla BT they can use the 0845 for cheaper call if they are not round the corner.
Although you claim not to want any moralistic replies, you appear to be quite happy to espouse cynically receiving commission from over-charging the people that call you.
    - the price of calling the 0845 is fixed by your service provider. You don't have to collect commission. There are loads of commission based services mentioned on this site.

Then tell us where from - make this thread more useful than just a bunch of people bashing my post.

Give your customers the option, and ensure you are always contactable the cheapest way.

It's free to setup, so it is moneysaving.

If any mods want to check my status then feel free to drop me a PM - I can prove I'm nothing to do with this company!

Your friend's service is not anything like as unique as you pretend. Why should I join in promoting the idea of making money off incoming calls, which you highlighted above other reasons and repeated?
  • Sheesh, some of you really need to get over yourselves!.

I agree that 0845 numbers are a consideration for anybody running a business from home, especially where expensive tools or stock are kept. Having once been the victim of the nuisance and slient 2AM calls routine from a jealous 'competitor' it would be far easier (and safer) in this situation to use an easily cancelled / changed 0845 number than constantly waiting for BT to 'get around' to a solution, and possibly even being charged for it!.

You can bandy about ethics all day, but I guess non of you would post up your telephone numbers on here, so why the venom spitting at others who perhaps also want a degree of privacy or protect a young family at home?.

Having the right to privacy and not be terrorised in your own home by idiots making malicious calls does not stop just because you run a home based business, and for the record (not that I have to justify myself to anybody here) I do give both Geographic and 0845 number options to my potential customers, but I able to see both sides of the story, because I have been there.

I admit there is nothing ethical about making money from these numbers that isn't my point, I am just trying to get across that some people do have a genuine reason / need for their use, and you are not helping their cause by your petty small mindedness. Basically, if you haven't actually had the need for one of these then maybe just for once you are not qualified to pass judgement eh?
  • "Revenue sharing" on 0845/0870 numbers is to be abolished - just like it was on 070 personal numbers.
