You've got your OHs income, ctc, cb and wtc, plus a full loan and grant.

Oh and a 25% reduction in council tax.

Have you considered posting an SOA to get some help trimming your outgoing as you really shouldn't be skint?

If you have debts, you can also get help on here and if they are unmanageable, perhaps it would be wise to defer a year and pay as much as possible off in the meantime?
  • I don't have any debts, and I have many other outgoings once you've taken into account, car insurance, mot, car tax- 200 a year, 400 a year for heating oil, etc. Even with sever budgeting cute, I still could afford the 390 per month for childcare, aswell as the 280- 200£ for diesel to get to and from college, let alone the 24 a month for uni parking, 25 a month for my son to eat at nursery, as he's there from 7am to 5.30pm etc etc. Majority of my outgoings are essential for me to go to uni.
  • *still couldn't afford the childcare.

If you have no debt then your outgoings are not excessive tbh - not from what you have put here anyway.

How much student finance are you getting? Are you getting the Parents Learning Allowance etc?

You will probably find you are not required to travel to uni as much as you think once you start and semesters are generally quite short so your diesel costs will be considerably less for half the year.

What uni are you going to? Perhaps people can help you find cheaper parking as uni car parks are not the cheapest as a rule. Or can you buy an annual permit cheaper?

I don't want to sound harsh but you either give up your place and save for a year or manage somehow.

There is the access to learning fund but they are overstretched due to budget cuts and you cannot rely on it.

If you decide to go for it, then there is loads of help on here with managing on a shoestring. Check out the Oldstyle Board for a start - they are very friendly and helpful. :)

They have obviously made a mistake. As somebody else with the same income and outgoings said here, they got the grant.
  • Would a childminder be cheaper than a nursery?

Have you got your timetable yet to know you will need childcare 5 days per week? I won't have mine until the 13th September. I know that my University nursery is cheaper then a normal one, so might be worth a call.

Would getting a student account and a railcard be cheaper then fuel and parking?
