British Gas - Grrrr!

I am trying to reclaim £198 rebate from British Gas - I have a prepayment meter and they owe me £48 due to overpayments on the meter and because I wanted to change to a credit meter I paid them £150 deposit.

However I've changed my mind (I want to switch supplier, hee hee!) So in April I asked for the money back including what they owed me. It's now August and I'm still waiting! I rang them on 3 September and they assured me that a cheque had been issued and I'd get it within 14 working days, which was yesterday. The cheque hasn't come, so I've telephoned again and the lad says, 'I'm really sorry, why did they tell you it was 14 working days, because it's actually 28 days'.

Does anybody have any advice? I'm thinking of taking it to the small claims court.

Hi Cazbar,

I'm sorry to hear you're still waiting. Everytime I've called I've been subjected to listening to their energy saving hold messages, at one point lasting 1hr 15mins after which I hung up! Were still overpaying on our meter due to some random debt that's appeared of it's own accord and the only way to stop paying too much is to not put any money in it at all.
