Hi,
I have a 97 golf mk3 1.4L and am wanting to upgrade the radio from the factory fitted cassete deck. I have managed to remove the radio to check the connection type on the back and i see two block connectors and the ariel. I can also see a single yellow wire coming from the back of the radio (comes out same place as all the other wires) which then drops down below the slot and seems to be connected to something i cannot see inside the dash before joining the rest in one of the connection blocks. I think the wire may be connected to the cig lighter but im not 100% about that as i cant see.
The radio is a sony xr 3209 cassette deck.
Cheers for any help

YOu can either go to volkswagen and get block adaptors to mate your existing block connectors to your new head unit, or simply do what I did on my mk3 golf this week. cut the block connectors off, strip the wire shielding back and join it to the wires on the new unit with screw-type block connectors.
There are two large connector blocks in the golf, the one that has all the wires the same size is the speaker output, the other one is for power/earth. The thick brown cable is the earth, then there is I think a thinner red wire, and a thinner yellow wire for the power supply. If you are not sure what you are doing get someone to check it out, your car may have had wiring modifications that mine didnt!
It really isnt a difficult job if you know what wire goes where.0
