if they charge an obscene amount for that i would consider not having any provided so the guests have to pay(apart from the welcome drink and the toast)
It works out more expensive to have glasses rather than bottles, it's about a fiver a glass!
We're gonna wait for our final invoice, see what we owe, which isn't a lot at all, and then ask if they can do us a deal on the wine.
I know we don't have to have it, especially as the bar is right there, but it would be nice that if they wanted a glass of wine with their meal, they can have one and not have to pay for it.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Arrival drinks we are having pims & white wine with strawberrys in
Orange juic for the kids & a few extra for those that dont want to drink
During the meal we are having red, rose & white being poured to people at 1/2 a bottle per person0 -
Shel, could you work out what a glass each would be in bottles and tell the venue that's what you're having?
We're not having welcome drinks, half the guests would want tea/coffee, another few would take a drink to be polite and not drink it, I wanted to do hot chocolate which I thought might be filling for the guests that don't eat much, OH thinks we shouldn't as we're paying for so much else. I want cocktails for myself or cava (don't want to mix my drinks lol) so it's just been easier to say everyone is going to get their own.
We're having cava that we like (at £4 per bottle) for the toast. Then for the meal I am going to put money behind the bar and get the hotel to offer guests wine or soft drinks and the men beer too, this works out cheaper than wine, two glasses of wine = half a bottle per guest that's nearly £10, two bottles of beer is £4 the guests are about half and half on beer and wine. It's not very weddingy but it's better than wasting money, it's about £70 we save, plus the £120 for not having welcome drinks.
I think I'm taking my own wine and paying corkage0 -
Our venue don't allow corkage and their cheapest drinks package is £15 pp which is for 2x glass sparkling and half a bottle of wine pp and must be purchased for everyone. It would be £900ish if we went for this.
A quick survey found that at least 30 of our 60 odd guests don't drink wine! (Even if it is free lol)
So a wine package is not right for us.
Instead we are going for bar tokens and everyone will get 2 or 3 so they can have drink of their choice with their meal.
We have drinks reception after the ceremony before the meal and it will be a cash bar. (Although I may try to do a deal here!)
Orginially we planned to have an open bar for this 1.5 hrs but slighty changed the venue (to its bigger nicer vaults) and it's costing us £2k more so the bar bill was the first thing to be trimmed.0 -
Panic over!
My lovely darling Dad has just given us the cash to pay for bottles of rose and white wine for the tables!! :j:j:j
We're still having Bucks Fizz as a welcome drinks, only cos we are getting them half price.
We're going to ask the venue to provide us with some jugs of water too, so we should be fine now!
Thanks for all your advice though, you're all superstars! :ATank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
recently married! twas a june bride there
we had tea/coffee and biscuits/shortbreak as well as some sort of sparkling wine/orange juice for when service finished and we were getting pics
we then then had line up where everyone got either another glass of spakly wine/orange juice
and then on the tables we out out a bottle of red and white for our guests and there were generally about 6-8 adults at each table, our maitre dee person went around tables and if anyone was running low on wine he just brought out another bottle
worked out great as people never had to buy own drinks really until evening party
yet again at buffet we had tea and coffee
was at and evening reception last night where we got a glass of champers on arrival
really each to their own !:A VK :A0 -
Hi,
When I got married we decided that the guests first drink would be free, a bottle of red and white wine was also provided during the meal.
I think they were all provided with a glass of something fizzy for the toasts as well, nothing expensive as a lot of the guests weren't fizzy wine/champagne drinkers, including the brideProud to be dealing with my debts

We are having an open bar which closes for a half an hour during dinner, at which time there will be wine served at the tables.
We are thinking of having signature cocktails for fun and name them after places in London where we live or London and Philadelphia where I'm from and the wedding will take place. This will help cut down on the bar line for the cocktail hour.
You can google cocktail drinks and find them in pretty much any color to match your wedding or tastes. Then you can rename them to make them more personal.0
