Read a newspaper and form your own opinions. Stick with what you know is good or at least copy someone good. malik mentions shares owned by warren buffet. If you had just copied him every time the news reports his stock purchases, you would do well. Shouldnt be that easy but sometimes it is. You can also buy shares in his company which is basically fund management, BRK.b
Lots of stocks in the ftse are actually investment funds or umbrella companies containing lots of tiny bits of others. Jii is another run to cover india etc
30 years is really long term, 5 years is a start. Ive been reading finance since the late eighties and Im still clueless on lots/most of things so no one here is going to give you magic beans on this one unfortunately
