I have a dvd which was from an old family vhs and I want to edit this. To do this I either have movie maker or Pinnacle studio (v9 i think). Problem I have is converting the VOB files to something it can import either mpg or avi and its this I cant do. I am not IT literate so if you can help please use very simple language!! I am presuming there is software to convert the VOB files but ideally I need an idiot proof one and preferably free as I dont think I will do it more than a couple of times. I was looking at a couple of dvd forums but they were talking about stuff I just didnt understand so hopefully somone can talk a language i know!!

I'd be interested if anyone can suggest a foolproof way of doing this.
I am IT-literate, but have still struggled to correctly edit VOB files from a DVD. The best I have managed is to get the video extracted, but not the audio (I think I used Nero).
Some tools that have been suggested are commercial apps, which I am loathe to buy since I've already shelled out money for Nero, Pinnacle Studio, and ULead.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
you need to use a program called DVD Decrypter
this can convert vob files into an mpeg 2 file
just search google for help files with settings
its free as well0 -
not sure what you are trying to edit really for it to be a difficulty, if its things like the running length of time? or is it certain scenes from the video? is it a commercial video or a home video?

ochiban, you are incorrect? dont listen coz dvd decrypter only places DVD files onto computer. Your best bet would be to use Adobe Premier, that would allow you to edit the video, repackage TS files and burn again.
but do you want to do? keep a certain scene? express!Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
