I'm hoping someone can answer my probably very stupid question!
I bought a Sandisk 16gb micro sd card for my htc desire. After installing it on my phone, I have discovered that it only has 14.2gb of memory available. Is this correct? I thought 16gb meant 16gb?!

Don't know the technical reason but it's fairly common to only have 90% of a storage medium available for use.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

For various reasons (both tech & otherwise), the 16GB was never there to start with. 1GB in the real world is 1024MB, but manufacturers of storage medium have decided that 1GB is only 1000MB.Not_a_Newbie wrote: »I'm hoping someone can answer my probably very stupid question!

Now add to the equation that there will be a small overhead when the card is partitioned & formatted, and 14.2GB is about right.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
