Help Please, AOL Broadband via NTL Line

Not sure if this is the right place.

We had NTL come round on Monday to install the modem etc for our AOL Broadband. They said we needed some kind of disc and [pin to get activated. NOthing arrived from AOL, spent time on live help and 0870 to India but noone seems to be be making sense. There is nothing in any of the confirmation emails and no instructions with the kit.

Can anyone tell me what should be happening, or have a phone number for AOL not in India?

I'm probably being thick, I thought it would be easy!

Thanks

  • Mm, i thought ntl was a cable modem so i cant understand why you are having aol broadband as ntl do their own, and why would ntl supply you with a modem as when you join aol they supply you with one

Could be that NTL have the installation contract for AOL and are installing ADSL modems on BT lines for AOL. Or even on NTL phone lines as opposed to the fibre cable.

You can have AOL on cable, mate of mine has it.
Have you got any software for AOL at all e.g. have you just moved from AOL dialup to broadband?
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?
  • We decided to stay with AOL rather than go with NTL as we didn't want to lose our e-mail addresses.

It is an AOL modem so I assume that NTL have the contract to fit these for people with NTL TV and phone. I think the broadband goes through the cable rather than the phone line but I am not sure.

We already have AOL installed and use dialup.

They left two leads, an ethernet lead and a cable modem lead but I think you only use one or the other. The lead seems to fit into the back of the modem but there is a sticky over the gap saying do not fit this until advised by your installation company (I think).

When I was talking to India they did mention something about a pin but then put me on hold and cut me off.

This is really peeing me off, I am tempted to cancel and just go with NTL.

Can anyone help please, I hope this explains better.

Speak to AOL directly using their free phone number (get it from saynoto0870.com) as their online help is completely useless. Also when you get a rep in India who wouldn't normally have a clue then just ask (& insist) to speak to a supervisor immediately. Failing that I found that speaking to their cancellation department and asking to terminate your contract can help in resolving your issues quicker. Hope this helps.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
