Morrisons Petrol prices difference-22p per gallon!

I live in Darlington and was in Ripon yesterday and thought I would call at Morrisons for fuel

I was certainly not expecting it to be 5p a litre dearer than their store in Darlington-22p a gallon! Needless to say, I didn't bother!

I e mailed Morrisons and received the following reply.Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC: 5755 From "Customer Service" <DoNotReply@morrisonsplc.

Thank you for contacting us

The price of fuel sold on our forecourts varies between stores. Competition between all petrol retailers within a local area is fierce and Morrisons monitors local competition closely. Our policy remains one of independently responding to competition on a local level, hence the differing prices that you have noticed

I can reassure you that Morrisons pricing decisions are always taken independently based on competitive conditions, which in the case of fuel includes local competition. Although Morrisons always seeks to ensure that its fuel prices are competitive, it does not compete on price alone. In addition to very competitive pump prices, we award Morrisons Miles to all fuel customers. Every time drivers fill up, Miles points are collected on a Miles card issued at our Petrol Filling Stations. For each full litre of fuel purchased, 15 Miles points are given. Once 333 full litres of fuel have been purchased, giving 4,995 points, a £5 Morrisons voucher is issued.

Thank you once again for writing to us on this matter. I do hope that I have been able to clarify our position with you.

Yours sincerely

Ripon is a lovely little market town in North Yorkshire, just about
10 miles north of Harrogate. (Heard of Lightwater Valley, Ripon)

Have you never heard of Ripon Cathedral, or the lovely Garden Racecourse.

OP, hope you enjoyed your stay.
I live in Ripon and also need to say that Morrisons is actually the cheapest filling station in Ripon:rotfl::rotfl:
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You really should know better than to post this kind of rubbish on the Grabbit Board !
  • Probably went to Flamingo Land, that is the only reason someone from the North East would go to Ripon for. :o:o

What a pointless post. It's a well known and countrywide practice for prices to vary from station to station, even the same companies.

I don't agree. It's a nice illustration of the way that companies charge as much for a product as they can get away with charging. Only if there's any competition do they have to reduce the price to a more reasonable level.

Not quite the cuddly image that Morrisons and the other supermarkets like to project - they'll all charge you as much as they can get away with charging you, and only competition limits them.

Nothing new - but a nice illustration, as I said.

Get Asda to put a filling station there.

They claim to sell at the same price nationwide. (nearest one now is York)
