won't grow outside now , maybee try some in greenhouse ,you've missed planting time .
  • Potatoes need to be planted in March or April.

If you are buying them for a Christmas harvest, good luck. The weather at the moment and the light levels are so rubbish, unless you have somewhere warm to keep them I don't hold out much hope.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

You can usually plant them in August for a christmas harvest, but, yes you will need to be able to move them in to somewhere undercover or cover them with a cloche. Use an early variety and they should *touch wood* be alright to lift in december.

  • I have tried to find seed potatoes suitable for growing in a bag in the greenhouse. Cannot find any.

I was thinking of buying some Charlotte organic new potatoes from Waitrose in the hope they would do instead ?

What do you reckon please ?

Really, just buy a bag of Charlotte and EAT THEM at Christmas.

You will get a better return on your money.

Unless you have a heated greenhouse it really isn't worth it....and they would have had to go in 2 months ago anyway....Christmas is 12 weeks away.....and even first earlies take 10-12 weeks and that's in the warmth of spring.

I am trying growing some spuds for Christmas but I did put them in back end of July. Variety, no idea, they were spuds left over from the weekly shop that had sprouted so I stuck them in a bucket. They have good growth on them now and I will be putting them in a unheated greenhouse shortly.

  • I recently got some potatoes especially for growing ready for christmas.
They were from fothergills, I put them in about 2 weeks ago & they are already starting to come through. The variety is Maris Peer.

Had things from here for a few years & never had any problems with it.
