The debt company took it, they work with the bank apparantly.
I'm wondering why the bank sold a debt (for presumably x pence in the pound) that was, as it's turned out, so easy to recover?
  • I got made redundant and was not allowed on the dole, so i didnt make a payment for around 3 months, even though its sold on i still pay the debt off to halifax via online banking.

It was Blair, Oliver and Scott. Their the DCA brand of Halifax / Bank of Scotland. So it wasn't sold on, no.

Ergo "Right of Offset" came into play :o

There's nothing you can do about it (legally) I'm afraid, only use the other account from now on.

Good luck with your job! And if you get a call saying "YAY" you could always ask a friend or relative for a few bob to tide you over until your first paycheque?

Good luck with the whole thing whatever happens :)

As far as I can tell, all the big banks have an 'internal' DCA "department" with a different name so you associate all the bad feelings over the way the debt collectors acted with "Dewey Cheatam and Howe DCA" instead of with "BigBank PLC"
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything
  • As highlighted already, change banks infact id just be closin that one down FULL STOP, cant see u ever becoming a favourite customer of theres anyway but yeah no bank account with them no problem.

    ;)

    Why not?
You either got a sizeable payout, or you weren't made redundant.......which is it?

I thought someone said on another thread that the banks weren't supposed to use offset rights to take benefit money. Of course they won't know that it is unless you tell them.

I don't know anything about this - perhaps someone else can chime in or the OP can try some searches (or even a CAB).
