Car damaged in work car park?

Options
Hi my car was damaged when I left it in the work car park, I work on ferries so I had to live on for a week. They have checked the cameras but could not find anything, but the lorries get parked in front of the camera that can view the staff car park :s

Is there anything I can do or will I just have to pay for the damage? I have been to a body repair specialist and he's quoted me £400 to fix it. From what he said as well I think it may have been one of the pick up trucks that are going round the port.

Also 2 other cars were damaged as well but mine was the worst :(

Thanks

Well if there's no evidence whatsoever to tell what vehicle hit your car what advice are you honestly expecting to receive?

Does youre company have a sign in the car park stating that any damage etc to vehicles parked are not there responsibility? If not then you may be able to pursue them for the damages although i doubt this would help any career progression!
  • No I've checked there's no sign saying vehichle left at own risk I've checked.

Well there reviewing the security tapes but like I said they have trucks blocking the view of the car park so no point with a camera really ha, well the other 2 cars have been done on the same week as mine as well neither had dents before we went on our week on.

The career isn't an issue I'm only on a temporary contract till January then I'm starting my cadetship so that's not an issue.

For the record there's no sign on the road outside my house saying that my car is parked at my own risk. Just because there is a sign that doesn't mean the local council is responsible or any damage.

The security cameras are poorly positioned or they should'nt be allowing lorries to be parked blocking the view.

  • So I'm just going to have to pay then? I thought since it was in a company car park they might be liable especially since they expect me to park my car there for a week.

Is it a requirement of the company that you have a car to get to work? If not, then no they have no legal responsibility to pay.

You can tackle the issue on other grounds - health and safety. If one of the purposes of the cameras is to ensure the car park is safe for people to walk into and out off to get into their vehicles then the fact the lorries can block the camera's view mean it's not safe.

I've worked at a company where someone on any different site got run over in the car park.

BTW This doesn't mean you will get a money out from them.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Sometimes things will happen to your car and you have to swallow the costs of repair. You could have got a lift and been dropped off if leaving your car was such a risk.

So what happens if you pop around a friends house, park on their drive, and something happens? Expect your friends to pay? If your friends visit you and their car suffers damage will you pay?

  • No not a requirement but if you don't drive you have to wait for a bus to take you to and from the car park otherwise be walking for about 30 minutes with all your clothes for a week.

Well hopefully can get a cheaper quote than 400 otherwise means I've done a weeks work for nothing :(

Yeah might be worth me just tackling the health and safety issue won't get my money back but might stop it happening to someone else.
  • Yeah I know what you mean but I don't tend to leave my car at my friends for a week ha just a bit different when your supposed to be on a secure work car park and things like this happen.
