I've finally got round to installing Ubuntu 2 months after I came here asking. (many thanks to those who gave the initial encouragement)
Finding most answers in the menus or through searching on Google but can't find much on resizing windows.
When I browsed using Vista/Firefox most web pages seemed to fit to the screen width. Now I'm finding most pages are too wide and I've either got to manually zoom out or keep using the horizontal scroll bar.
I remember something that automatically re-sized windows but I think it may have been when I was trying Opera.
Any suggestions / solutions for getting the screen to fit?
It's not just the web either. I thought I'd try Evolution for reading my e-mail (Hotmail) but found I'm having to move the window from side to side to read it then click the next button.

I imagine the first question you will be asked is "What is the ratio of your screen?"0

System/preferences/monitor just comes up with Unknown monitor (800x600 resolution).
The search for drivers comes up blank.
I've found the original Drivers/User manual CD. Unfortunately they're all for Vista/XP so can't get any of them to work.
I've identified the display/driver - SiS Mirage 3 Graphics - SiS 307ELV
I fould this which led to a few more pages and managed to download a driver which it said to put in the usr/lib/xorg folder but I 'do not have permission'
Any further suggestions? (return to Windows not an option - I used the 'install over Windows' option) I presume there's a way to change permissions.
Obviously I've a lot to learn about Ubuntu yet! My only consolation from searching is that many others have/had a similar problem.0
